Guides / Slow weeknights

How do you fill a restaurant on a slow Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday?

Those nights are still the slow ones. In Toast's third-quarter 2024 reservation data, Monday was 6 percent of reservations, Tuesday 8 percent, and Wednesday 10 percent, while Saturday was 27 percent. Give people a reason to come on that night, and judge it by sales on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday slower for restaurants?

These are Toast reservations, not every dining room. Versus the year before, Monday and Tuesday were up 11 percent and Wednesday was up 8 percent. Saturday dipped 1 percent. Growth did not flip the week.

Sunday was 15 percent. These are reservations. Check your own week before you use them.

Pull your own sales or covers by day for the last four to eight weeks. Mark a holiday, a buyout, or a closed kitchen. If Friday already turns people away, put the next test on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. How much to put against the gap is in the marketing budget guide.

How do I get more customers on a slow weeknight?

Toast said 45 percent of reservations in that quarter were made the same day. Hours, photos, the menu, and reviews have to be right tonight. In Toast's 2025 survey, word of mouth was 38 percent, walking or driving past was 30 percent, and map apps were 18 percent. Our Maps and reviews guide covers the person who is already nearby. Google says you cannot pay for a better local ranking.

Reservations around 5 p.m. were about 8 percent higher than the year before. Look at your own first hour. Then text or email people who already eat with you, name the night, and send it in time to change a plan. Price and value was the reason 55 percent of guests in that survey gave for a visit. A company dinner can use a Tuesday, when Saturday is already full. Keep a sent inquiry, a request that fits, and a booked event in separate columns. Our private dining guide shows that split.

Should I discount Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday?

A lower price can be part of a test. Name the nights, tell people who already come, and compare parties seated with the same weekdays before. Count covers on those weekdays. Set aside a holiday or a storm. We do not promise a full dining room.

What else do owners ask about slow nights?

Are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday actually slower?

On Toast reservations for the third quarter of 2024, Monday was 6 percent, Tuesday 8 percent, and Wednesday 10 percent. Saturday was 27 percent. Those weekdays were up from the year before. Check your own sales by day before you copy the average.

Do private events help on weeknights?

A group can land on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday the dining room can still take. The page, the form, and a person who replies have to work. Count a sent inquiry, a request that fit, and a booked event separately.

Will a post fill an empty Tuesday?

A post can name the night. Hours, photos, and reviews still have to be right for someone deciding that day. Toast said 45 percent of reservations in that quarter were made the same day. Count the Tuesday sales.

How long should I run a weeknight test?

Compare more than one Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with the same weekdays before the test. Stop if those nights do not move. One stormy Monday does not settle the test.
