Why isn't my restaurant showing up on Google Maps?
You cannot pay Google for a better local ranking. Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity. If the profile is thin, the category is wrong, or the person searching is far away, the restaurant can be missing from that search.

Why doesn't my restaurant show up on a near me search?
Google's page says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Results are mainly relevance, distance, and popularity. Google describes popularity as prominence, including links and reviews. "More reviews and positive ratings can help your business's local ranking." You cannot buy that rank.
What Google says local results use
RelevanceHow well the profile matches the search
DistanceHow far the restaurant is from that person
PopularityProminence: links, reviews, and being known
No payment changes the order.
Relevance is the category, the meal, and the attributes that are true. Distance is how far the guest is from the restaurant. You cannot place the restaurant in a neighborhood where it has no address. Complete, accurate information is more likely to show. Verify the profile, keep the hours and category current, and open the menu and booking links on a phone. Do this at every address. Our profile guide lists the checks. Our multi-location guide keeps each profile on its own line.
How do I get more Google reviews?
In Toast's December 12, 2023 survey of 1,157 adults, 46 percent checked Google reviews first. Yelp was 23 percent. Ten percent always write a review and 53 percent never or rarely do, so ask the guests who ate. Google lets you share a review link or QR code on a receipt, in a thank-you email, or in the restaurant. Google forbids a discount or any other benefit, pressure at the table, asking only happy guests, and a staff quota. A business that breaks that rule can lose new reviews or have existing ones unpublished. Reply to a real complaint with the specific thing that happened.
How do I report a fake Google review?
Report a review with no real visit or one that was paid for. Do not report a review only because you dislike it. Open it in the profile, choose report, and pick the reason. Extortion is a burst of one-star and two-star reviews, then a demand for money or a comp. Do not pay. Keep the messages and use Google's merchant extortion report.

The budget question is in the marketing budget guide. A direction request is a request for directions. Our reporting approach keeps it separate from a visit.
What else do owners ask about Maps and reviews?
Why does my restaurant not show up when someone searches near me?
Google says local results depend on relevance, distance, and popularity, and that you cannot pay for a better ranking. A thin profile, the wrong category, or a far-away guest can leave you out. An ad does not erase distance.
How do I get more Google reviews without getting them removed?
Ask guests who ate, with Google's link or a QR code on the receipt or in a thank-you email. Do not offer a benefit or pressure people at the table. Toast found 10 percent always write a review and 53 percent never or rarely do.
What should I do about a fake review?
Report a review with no real visit, a paid review, or a demand for money. Do not report one only because it is harsh. If someone demands payment to take reviews down, do not pay. Keep the messages and report those too.
Does a direction request mean someone visited?
No. A direction request asks for directions. A website click is a click. Completed bookings come from the booking system. Keep those numbers in separate columns.
